Day 61 – Wednesday 12th
March 2014 – At Sea
At 04.00
this morning, the ship was passing over the deepest part in any of the Oceans,
the Mariana Trench. We were directly
over the deepest part, known as ‘Challenger Deep’ which has a depth of 11,000
metres (7 miles), named after the British Royal Navy’s survey ship HMS
Challenger, who in 1875 was the first ship to record the depth of water at this
location.
It is
blowing a full gale from the east and the open decks are closed off, needless
to say, not many people are about and are staying in their cabins.
The choir
practice was a nightmare, we spent most of the time on one song, trying to
achieve the harmonies which the choir master requires; he is knocking the fun
out of it.
One of our
favourite cocktails came round today, Pina Colada, rum, coconut cream and
pineapple juice.
Dinner was
another favourite, soup/roast beef/black forest cake.
Missed the
theatre and into the Golden Lion for the pub sing along, followed by, the first
time for us ‘Where Am I’ quiz. Trying to
figure out world cities with the minimum of clues, for the first attempt, we
came second.
I am going down
with the air conditioning bug, seemingly, a lot have the same symptoms.
