Day 60 = At Sea

Day 60 – Tuesday 11th March 2014 – At Sea

Today is the halfway point in the cruise, and still enjoying every minute of it.

The lecture this morning was given by a British Politician, who is travelling with his wife, Lord Michael Howard entitled, ‘My Life & Times in Politics’.  He was Home Secretary for four years in Margaret Thatcher’s Government.  I enjoyed the lecture, which gave an insight into the lighter things that happen in Government. Though at the questions and answers session at the end, he gave Politician’s answers, and ducked them.

The choir practice was a little better today, but we are still struggling.

Golden Lion Entrance

An insight to where we spend quite a bit of time during this voyage.

The Golden Lion Pub which we call affectionately Weatherspoons.

Bar

The bar where we occasionally reside, but use the tables when seats are available, which includes waiter service.

A grand piano can be seen in the centre and the man tinkling the ivories is Robin, an Australian, who as yet has not refused a lager.  He plays a fine selection of songs and gets everyone singing along.

After the theatre, we will finish off in here, whenever karaoke is on, or the trivia quiz wipe out.  This is normally hosted by Laura, a very funny and talented lady from Blackpool who really puts a smile on everyone’s faces.

After a day ashore this is the first stop when back on board, as the Speckled Hen is delicious.

I have asked the staff how they keep their beer in such a good a condition, answer, they do nothing.  When one keg is empty, they wheel the next one in and connect up, pipes cleaned once a week, so why can’t others do this in the UK.

This evening’s cocktail in the Café Carinthia is Margarita, tequila gold, triple sec, lime juice and lemon mix, another very nice one.

Dinner consisted of cauliflower soup/steak diane/ice cream which was very satisfying.
We entered the free casino raffle draw, and won a dinner for two on behalf of Rita, an Australian lady, in the Lido alternative dining, looking forward to this one.

The theatre show was by an American comedy ventriloquist, Phil Hughes, and like a lot of other guests, walked out after fifteen minutes, not our type of humour at all.

The weather is closing in with frequent showers and the deck is not the place to be for stargazing.
