Day 49 - At Sea

Day 49 – Friday 28th February 2014 – At Sea

Awake at 06.00 and in the Garden Lounge for 06.30, as this I had been told is the best time for internet access and it worked very well.

Therefore, I was early into the gym and sauna, the friendly Filipino attendant, Rene was very impressed.

The Australian’s do things differently and more efficiently, there were four Immigration Officials on board, who had joined the ship in the Bay of Islands.  We filed through the Britannia Restaurant at 10.00 without any problems what so ever, the Yanks should take note.

I went to a lunch time lecture given by Diane Simpson on ‘Music in Mind’. It was not very good and found it very hard to stay awake.

I was back in the theatre for 15.00 to watch one of the Maori’s, Marcus Winter, whom we had met the night before, and his was an artist, making wonderful images from sand and very quick sketches using inks, tissue paper and brushes.  I was very impressed by his work and he is an unusual artist, he will certainly make it, as he spreads his work to a bigger audience.

Up on deck they were having pancake race normally held on pancake Tuesday’s, but this is Friday.  All the departments from the ship’s crew were participating, and they all seemed to enjoy it with the guests giving them every encouragement.  I do not know what the prize was for the winners, but they did not get chucked into the pool.

The timetable for the events was different today, and we were back in the theatre for 19.00 to see Russell Harrison, the Maori singer and he was brilliant.  For such a big man his range of voice was unbelievable, and the audience really did enjoy the performance, he will make it, especially on the cruise ships.

Today’s cocktail, Cape Cod, vodka and cranberry juice, not very nice but we managed.

Dinner was parma ham/cucumber salad/sirloin steak/fruit cake, all very nice.

I tried again on the internet at 23.00 but it did not work, to slow with too many users.

An interesting day, but looking forward to tomorrow, and the arrival in Australia.

For those interested in the Melton weight sweepstake, this end of month update.  Colin has gained 6 pounds, and I have lost five pounds.
