Day 110 – Wednesday 30th
April 2014 – At Sea
It is sunny
but cold on deck, as the wind has begun to increase to the point where the open
decks were closed off, because of the 40 knot winds blowing across the decks.
The lunch
time lecture was given by Commander Jeff Tell of the Royal Navy, a submariner
of 30 years on ‘The Story of the U-boats’ – the greatest threat. U-boats
threatened to bring the United Kingdom to her knees in both World Wars. Miscalculation on the part of the Germans
wasted opportunities, and presented the allies with the chance to fight
back. I thoroughly enjoyed the lecture,
given by a man who has commanded four submarines in his career.
The
pre-dinner pina coladas went down very nicely; back into the lobster for
dinner.
Part of the
night’s entertainment in the Queens Room was a tribute to the golden era of the
big bands. This is always very popular
and I thoroughly enjoyed the dancing.
Into the
Golden Lion, to finish off in the trivia quiz wipe out, although new members in
the team, we still managed to lose.
